Field day is the single most-anticipated school day of the year for most elementary students in Forsyth and Guilford County — and for the PTA volunteers and PE teachers running it, the most logistically demanding. A professionally installed inflatable obstacle course turns a 90-minute station into the centerpiece of the entire event, dramatically increases student participation, and gives you incredible photo content for the school newsletter. This post explains how to spec, budget, and safely run an obstacle course at your Triad-area school field day.
Traditional field day stations — sack races, tug of war, parachute games — max out at roughly one student every 20–30 seconds. A 60-foot inflatable obstacle course can move two to four students simultaneously, meaning a class of 25 cycles through in under 10 minutes. That throughput matters: it lets every grade level get multiple turns in a tight schedule.
For elementary schools (K–5), our 40–50 foot single-lane courses are the right fit — they are age-appropriate, easy to staff, and fit on any standard recess field. For combined elementary/middle field days or PTA-run summer events, the 60-foot dual-lane Royal Castle obstacle course is our most-requested unit; you can browse it on our obstacle courses category page.
A 60-foot course needs a 70×20 ft area of mostly flat grass or asphalt with a 4-foot perimeter, plus one 20-amp 110V circuit within 100 feet of the unit. Most Forsyth and Guilford schools have a back field that meets this easily. If your campus is concrete-only, we anchor with sandbags rather than stakes — same safety rating, no surface damage.
Plan for two adult attendants per inflatable at all times. One controls entry from the on-deck line, the other supervises the slide exit. Airbender provides a written safety briefing for each unit at delivery, and we can supply trained attendants on request — many schools opt to add this for liability simplicity.
Field day season in the Triad runs from mid-April through early June. Friday rentals book first, then Wednesdays and Thursdays. To secure the date and the right unit, most PTAs book by February. We offer multi-day discounts for schools booking back-to-back field days at the same campus.
