This guide gives you the rules of thumb professional event planners use so you can rent the right quantity of tables and chairs the first time.
For seated meals, the standard is one chair per guest plus a 5–10% buffer. For drop-in events — open houses, graduation parties, casual receptions — you need seating for roughly 60–70% of the headcount, since guests rotate between standing, eating, and chatting.
