Inflatable Rental Safety: What Every Parent, Planner & Pastor in NC Should Ask Before Booking

North Carolina does not currently require state-level inflatable amusement licensing. That means the burden of safety vetting falls entirely on you, the renter. The good news: five short questions, asked before you sign anything, will tell you almost everything you need to know about whether a rental company is operating to professional standards. This post is the question list we recommend every parent, corporate planner, and church staff member use.

Question 1: Are You Insured, and Will You Issue a COI?

The single most important question. A reputable rental company carries commercial general liability insurance — we recommend a $2M minimum — and will issue a certificate of insurance naming you, your venue, and any HOA or property manager additionally insured. If a vendor cannot do this within one business day, walk away.

Question 2: Who Performs the Anchoring, and to What Spec?

Inflatable units must be anchored to manufacturer specification — typically 18–36 inch stakes for grass installations, sandbags rated to the unit’s wind load for hard surfaces. Ask for the spec in writing. Airbender provides this on every delivery and verifies anchoring before the rental window starts.

Question 3: What Is the Wind Plan?

Manufacturer spec for most inflatable wet units is 25 mph sustained winds; for dry units, 35 mph. Ask the rental company what their policy is when forecasted winds approach those numbers, and how a rain/wind cancellation is handled financially.

Question 4: How Are Units Cleaned and Sanitized?

Every Airbender unit is cleaned and sanitized between rentals using commercial-grade products. If a rental company cannot describe their sanitization process — or worse, if they show up with a visibly dirty unit — that is a hard pass.

Question 5: Do You Provide a Written Safety Briefing?

For every unit we deliver, the homeowner or designated event lead receives a written safety briefing covering rider age limits, max occupancy, evacuation procedure, and contact information for our on-call delivery lead. This is non-negotiable in our standard delivery process.
